NHS SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM FLIES TO FLORIDA FORENSICS LEAGUE STATE FINALS
It’s irrefutable—eleven Niceville High School team members qualified in our regional tournament for STATE Finals with the Florida Forensics League. Victoria Jordan went undefeated in all her rounds in Lincoln Douglas debate. In public forum debate the team of Felicity Francis and Trey Buck came in second place. NHS swept In humorous interpretation, Josh Jessiman took first place, Darian Bilog won second and Mark Holton won third place. Rebekah Conrad took second place in dramatic interpretation. In duo performance Ellis Daugherty and Lyndon Clifton came in first; Josh Jessiman and Rebekah Conrad came in third place. In original oratory, Simrun Sharma won first place and Elisha Woodard won third place. The NHS Golden Eagles Forensics Team, as they say— we are not CSI—but masters of the art of rhetoric, look forward to state finals next month in Orlando, Florida.
The team is a growing and has doubled its members. Students are working to carry on the legacy of the team from years past. We invite former NHS alumni speech and debaters to click the link on the NHS website and connect with former classmates in the group created by John Messamore, Class of 2005. We also invite registering freshmen to take Debate I and take on the challenge. Students will learn the basics of public speaking, the many categories of both speech and debate, and compete in local tournaments. As many students in the class this year will affirm, the class benefits them across the curriculum as they discuss issues and topics in other classes. Go, Eagles!
