Eight members of the Niceville High School band program have been selected to perform in the All-State Band at the Florida Music Educators’ Association Conference Jan. 13-16. The group includes four clarinetists, two flutists, one French horn player and one bass clarinetist.
Students auditioned in September, playing scales, lyrical and technical pieces, and doing sight reading. They learned of their selection in early November. Dan Wooten, Director of Bands, was pleased to learn that the Eagle Pride would once again be well-represented, noting, “Eight students is the largest group from any non-performing arts high school in the state.”
The annual FMEA conference is one of the largest music education professional development events in the U.S. More than 10,000 music educators, college students, college administrators and performers attend. The All-State Band will perform at the Tampa Convention Center on Jan.16 for conference attendees and parents.
